Journaling and Art in Piermont at HRCL

Journaling and Art

Thursday 2-4 pm

In this workshop for teenagers, we will focus on how journaling can be used as part of an artistic practice.  Journaling is a great tool for quickly developing ideas, slowing down and listening to our own inner wisdom. Our aim is to find the connection between brain, hand, heart and paper in the most outrageously fun way.

In addition to creating out own journals, the curriculum will include:

            - Survey of Artist’s journals, their variety and scope.

            - Benefits of keeping a journal - writing and art together.

            - Creative exercises in both writing and art that will jump-start any project.

 No experience necessary

Please email Eileen Brady Nelson at ebnphoto@mac.com to register.

Simone Eisold of Reset Your Home asked local artists and designers to participate in a staging extravaganza at The Glenbrook mansion overlooking the Hudson River in Balmville, New York. See how Simone and her team transformed the house on the realtor’s site, below.

“Stunning and significant, Frederick Clarke Withers' early Victorian masterpiece sits serenely back from the road in elegant Balmville, surrounded by sweeping lawns. Completed in 1856, its spacious rooms with 10-feet ceilings lend grandeur & grace, reflecting the splendor of the era…” for more info, see, Realtor’s site https://www.trulia.com/p/ny/newburgh/60-balmville-rd-newburgh-ny-12550--2011613195 or Call Beryl Oles at (845) 728-9050.

Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day!

Love is in the air!

i love Valentine’s Day, in my own way.  I am an artist, so I have given myself permission to ignore that which I don’t like - blatant consumerism.   My husband of many years can attest to this.  I discourage him from buying me roses or overpriced chocolates on Valentine’s Day.   This may seem harsh, but I viscerally react to the pressure society imposes on us to “buy, buy, buy,” so instead I “make, make, make,” whenever I can.

IMG_7252.jpg

For many years I’ve hosted Valentine’s Day parties, teas, and art making workshops.  I have to admit I do have a tender spot in my heart for vintage velvet candy boxes, and Victorian cards attract me like a moth that’s drawn to light.

Valentine’s Day is a time to reflect on love, not only for our families, friends, and those closest to us, but also those folks in this world whose paths cross and intertwine with ours, and whom we may be privileged to work with professionally.

If we open our hearts and allow ourselves to feel love, we are more prepared to pass it on to our clients and colleagues.  When I spnd time, everyday, doing something I truly love, or something that fosters joy in creating, I firmly believe it is good for my heart.

Do something nice for yourself this month of love. Look around and create your own rituals with friends.  Make new Friends!  Reach out and help someone in need!  Love is in the air.

Be good to yourself this Valentine’s Day and enjoy.

 XOXO --- Eileen

Spring 2018

Art and meditation on Wednesdays.

Stop by HRCL studio on Wednesdays from 6-8pm for a chance to sit quietly with a small group in meditation followed by an hour of private journaling or art making.   At 7:40 we will come back to the circle and share or just listen as the spirit moves you.

It is my experience that the answers to Life's big questions lie within.  Most of us  truly know what we want to do but never give ourselves enough quiet time to hear the still quite voice inside.  Most of my creative ideas come to me in meditation or while I am in nature  and not when i am laboring over the answer.

No experience necessary.  All art supplies, cushions and a snack will be available.

HRCL is on the road - February collaboration in France & Valentine's Day with friends.

Valentine’s Day                                February 14th

I love Valentine’s Day, in my own way.

I am an Artist and Creativity Coach, so I have given myself permission to ignore that which I don’t like - blatant consumerism.   My husband of many years can attest to this.  He is not allowed to buy me roses or overpriced chocolates on Valentine’s Day.   It may seem hard, but I viscerally react to the pressure society imposes on us to “buy, buy, buy,” so instead I “make, make, make.”

For many years I’ve hosted Valentine’s Day parties, teas, and art making workshops.  I have to admit I do have a tender spot in my heart for vintage velvet candy boxes; and Victorian cards attract me as a moth is drawn to light.

I think of Valentine’s Day as a time to reflect on love. Not only for our families, friends, and those closest to us, but also those folks in this world whose paths cross and intertwine with ours, or perhaps we may be privileged to work with professionally.

If we open our hearts and allow ourselves to feel love, we are more prepared to pass it on to our clients and colleagues.  When I spend time everyday doing something I truly love, or something that fosters joy in creating, I firmly believe it is good for my heart.

All “Holidays” can be difficult for those who don’t have close relationships in their lives.  And Valentine’s Day in particular, can have a strong effect on those who are alone.

So, I say, “Change your focus.”  Look around and create your own rituals with friends.  Make new Friends!  Love is not just for couples.

Be good to yourself this Valentine’s Day and enjoy.

xoxo Eileen
